Persepolis is an autobiographical graphic novel written by Marjane Satrapi, set during her adolescence during the Iranian Revolution, a time when there was a heavy backlash against westernization and secularism and you could only buy Kim Wilde cassettes on the black market. Check out the animated adaption that plays at the Detroit Institute of Arts January 25 – February 3.

This is a montage done for advanced illustration and design class. The character was taken from an ink drawing I did this past summer. I took that image and threw it into illustrator and drew it. And that bat was taken from a doodle I had in my sketchbook. I’ve learned that I like taking images that I drew or painted and juxtaposing them with other things in photoshop. I’m thinking about doing more of that in the future.

Check out Lost at E Minor, it’s an art, music, etc. blog and you can submit your artwork and if they like it they will put you up on their blog and write a post about you. Also you can submit banners for their blog that they use on rotation. It’s cool also to look at and see a bunch of other visual and musical artists work.

Check out San Francisco artist Diana Fayt’s new series FOLKLORE. Folklore is a series of “kerchiefed old world ladies” drawn, painted and collaged onto used cardboard envelopes that diana collected from friends from all over the world.I like how she uses found objects as her canvas, like Don was showing all his treasures from around the world. It’s a neat idea and you could always combine the images in photoshop if you didn’t want to ruin any envelopes.

Shes also does ceramics.
